Behind the Scenes

June already! Lots of exciting things this month - a couple of photoshoots booked in, a magazine to release and a personal project to keep shooting for.

So last time, I asked if you had a preference on the underwater images which were selected for highly commended awards. I love that you got involved! The results....50/50! I feel exactly the same and go back and forth for different reasons as to which I love the most, it's like picking a favourite child...it just isn't possible ;)

I also promised some behind the scenes and making of 'A Little Mermaid' so here we go.....

So below shows the image I started with of the very beautiful model @LottiiRose taken at @OpenspaceStudio

I have also included a couple of elements to show how the image was built.

The first thing I needed to do was create a new document at the desired size and to fill that with the background starting point, and of course, add the lovely Lottii. I needed Lottii to be facing the opposite way for the tail I wanted to add and then composited the two together. It was really important to me to have the right angle and to have the tail blend as though it belonged so spent quite a lot of time on this.

We of course couldn't have a beautiful mermaid swimming in the ocean without flowing hair so also spent a considerable amount of time extending and adding to this and then blending it in to the background.

Finally, I wanted to add depth and the illusion Lottii was actually under the water so added the additional elements from my personal stock photographs to add depth and texture. With some overall colour toning, blending and light we have our final result.

If there is anything you would like to know about this image, or any tips on some of the steps I have talked through please reach out, I'm happy to help!

ALSO, if you would like to create your own fantasy fine art mermaid image like the above, please get in contact and we can organise a time to make some magic!

If you have been over on my Instagram or Facebook page you will have seen my latest behind the scenes along with some more images I have created from both this and recent shoots and I still have lots more to come so keep your eyes peeled!

I have found out some great news about my image 'Who Will Catch Me If I Fall' that it was selected by the MPA for a highly commended award for April, which is absolutely fantastic. It was created as part of my personal project with 52Frames and so it is amazing news!

Before I sign off, I just want to give a shout out to Duston Camera Club in Northampton for welcoming me to their competition evening last Tuesday. Everyone was so lovely and I had a great time seeing everyone's work and meeting everyone!

.

Thank you for having me, I look forward to seeing you all again soon x

The next time I catch up with you all will be for our creative magazine and I can't wait.

Have a great week x
